26./27.11.2019 Our second weekend in Norman

Our second weekend was very eventful. On Saturday we had a pumpkin carving party at my exchange student Alice’s place where everyone who came carved unique and fun pumpkins for Halloween. That was great fun and also felt very American. Afterwards most of us met at the ice rink for ice-skating. It was a lot of fun, too, and - in my opinion - it was worth all the blisters that most of us had  afterwards because the shoes were so uncomfortable. After that we spent some time with our host families and partners.

On Sunday we went to a basketball game in Oklahoma City, where the Oklahoma City Thunders played against the Golden State Warriors from California. For that event, a few of us had bought Thunder shirts to support the team even more and because we thought it was very special to be invited to an NBA game. The Thunders played very well and impressed me a few times with their skills. The final score was 120 - 92. The game was very interesting and different compared to games you would watch in Germany. In the beginning someone prayed just for a brief moment, and a woman sang the national anthem. During half-time an employee played "Simon says" with some people from the audience, which was hilarious to watch. Another thing that I saw was the so-called "infamous kiss cam" that made the crowd laugh as well. Every time the camera caught a couple those two persons immediately had to kiss and then the rest of the audience would applaud. It was quite funny to watch.

After the basketball game we (all the people participating in the exchange) got to play a quick game that is called Knock-out. The goal was to shoot a hoop before the person behind you did and if you actually did manage to do that, you knocked them out of the game.

Then we got the opportunity to meet Dennis Schröder, a player from the Thunder Team who was born and raised in Germany. We were a bit shy first, but we still got to ask him some questions, for example for how long he had been playing for the Thunders (for two years, in case you were wondering). Then we took a group picture with him in it. It was really special to meet him and talk to him.

When we arrived at home, we just got some rest, ate dinner and went to bed.
