Monday 28.10.2019

The original plan on Monday, October 28, was to go to the Wrights' farm and do horse-riding. But because of the cold and wet weather the teachers decided to cancel this plan because it would have been too chilly and muddy anyway. Instead, we went to school and had the possibility to visit some more classes we were interested in. In the first hour I went to “Marketing”, where we did some posters for the Halloween party.

In second hour many of us went to “Marriage and Family Life”. That class sounded very interesting to us because we couldn’t imagine what you learned there. The teacher explained to us that they talked about love, relationships and about  marriage life. Maybe it was a bit strange for some German students to talk about such a topic in school because we have nothing comparable in Germany. It was really fascinating to see what they did in that class.

In third hour, I joined Mrs Rex's German class, which was fun to be in. We had lunch in fourth hour, so some of us went out to get some food, and the others, who had brought their lunch, ate at school. That had oftentimes been the case in the last ten days.

In fifth hour, I wanted to visit “Government and Politics”, but we couldn't find the correct room, so we ended up in “French” and stayed there. We thought it would be interesting to see how Americans learn a foreign language, but we didn’t see much teaching because most of the time the students worked on their own on a project they had been assigned and that we didn't know anything about. The other German students visited different classes like “Chemistry”, “Astronomy”, “3D Arts” or “Earth Science”. Some of them very very different from what we do in Germany. There is even a class called "Forensics", which I don't think exists in any German school.

After “English” in sixth hour, I went home and rested for a while. Our days are very intense and sometimes it feels good to relax for a while. In the late evening my host family took my sister and me to a friend's who owns a farm. He allowed us to ride on one of his horses. Western Riding is way different from classical English horse-riding, which I practise at home, so in the beginning I really struggled. But after a while I got it and the more I understood it the more fun it was.

We went to a burger restaurant for dinner and after that we drove to Target and bought Halloween costumes for the Spooktacular at school and for Halloween night. I will dress up as an owl, Sara as a panda, and Jordan as a bear. At the end of this long but interesting day we were quite tired, so we went to bed.
