Information: "Adopt a German partner": everybody got a new partner for one day who showed us the school and we got new insights into Norman North High School.)
On Monday, October 21, we met our “Adopt-a-German partner”. Some of them were students from German class, but not all of them knew any German. Some just had us come with them for a day for the fun of it - and they even took us out for lunch! We also did our presentations, which we had already prepared at home, and which we were supposed to give in different American classes with all kinds of teachers and lessons. Our topics were: German food, German traditions, Our school, The German school system, Music and Film, and German Sports.
First, everybody went to German class. After that some of us heard the presentation by Christoph, Lars and Tim, who were talking about typical German food and who also showed everybody some examples, eg. Maultaschen (traditional kinds of dumplings) and Kaesspaetzle (cheese noodles). We had fun together and we talked about some stereotypes about Germans and Americans. Subsequently everybody went to their classes (lessons) with their partners.
After our presentations the American students and teachers would ask us lots of questions about Germany, for example what the drinking age was, at what age you were allowed to drive, if we had class in the afternoon, what we missed most about home, or if we liked the food.
In second hour my partner (Jack) and I went to Mrs Rex's German class again and we talked about relative clauses. A very funny moment
was when I was helping him and everybody shouted: ”You are cheating!”. Jack and I kept asking all the time while we were together what each of us could and couldn't pronounce. All in all, I met many new people and I am still in contact with some of them.
Some examples of words that were hard to pronounce:
squirrel -> Eichhoernchen, match-> Streichholzschachtel, ice-skating->Schlittschuhlaufen
At 12.06 pm we went to lunch at Chick-Fil-A, and it was good. After school some of us went to Heyday again and they were and they all
had fun together. My exchange partner Carter and I had some friends over in the evening and watched some movies with a couple of friends.
